A section of Nairobi MCAs has come out to distance itself from the planned impeachment of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
The ODM party MCAs said they would need a go-ahead from their party leader to participate in the plans to impeach Governor Sonko.
“Impeaching Mr. Sonko is a major move that cannot be carried out for political reasons, considering the unique state of the county government,” said Nyayo Highrise MCA Kennedy Oyugi.
According to Mr. Oyugi, the ODM party through its top leadership has not declared its stand on the matter.
Mr. Oyugi further revealed that the few MCAs behind the plans to impeach Sonko only want to settle scores with him, something he says the ODM Party MCAs will not support.
Mr. Oyugi’s stand was supported by his counterpart Osman Khalif of South C, saying that the allegedly collected 82 signatures to necessitate a censure motion should be made public.
Mr. Khalif also said that the respective party leaders must give direction concerning the impeachment of Governor Sonko.
Also of the same stand is Nairobi West MCA Maurice Gari, saying that MCAs cannot just wake up and decide to impeach the Governor.
