The Meru County Health Department has obtained an additional 14 Patient Monitors as part of the COVID-19 preparedness.
The patient monitors will make it easier for medical professionals to monitor Coronavirus suspected cases, giving accurate patient information when needed.
The Health Department has also obtained an additional 40 Oxygen cylinders to ensure adequate preparation to handle critical COVID-19 cases.
According to Health CECM Mr. Misheck Mutuma, there are no confirmed Coronavirus cases in Meru thus far.
Mr. Mutuma says that three suspected cases that were under isolation were released a few days ago after testing negative for the disease.
Only one suspected coronavirus case remains in isolation, awaiting test results from Nairobi.
Just like several other Counties, the Meru County Administration has been involved in the massive distribution of hand sanitizers to residents in towns and marketplaces.
The distribution of hand sanitizers mainly targets people living in informal settlements around the major towns.
This has however been met by shortage challenges, something the County Administration has combated by buying additional sanitizers, in addition to what was provided by the National Government.
Fumigation of major marketplaces is also ongoing, in efforts to contain the spread of the virus in the County.
So far, fumigation exercise has covered the Gakoromone market, Timau, Maua and Kariene among others.
Speaking during a fumigation exercise at Kariene Market, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi says that his administration is making deliberate moves to ensure the County is well prepared to fight the virus.
To prevent the importation of Corona Virus from neighboring Counties, mandatory screening has been enforced for everyone entering Meru County in major border points.
The screening targets all entry points from neighboring Counties such as Isiolo, Mandera, Wajir, and Laikipia among others.
Just like in several other Counties, isolation centers have been set up in every Sub-County in Meru, ready to accommodate all suspected coronavirus cases as they arise.
According to Mr. Mutuma, every Sub-County in Meru has at least three isolation centers.
At the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, a 20-bed capacity Coronavirus isolation ward has been set up, which will soon be upgraded to 35-bed capacity.
