Anti-riot police had a difficult time dispersing tea farmers protesting against this year’s low bonus payments.
The farmers attached to Tegat Tea Factory expressed their disappointment after they were paid Sh 14.10 per kilogramme, down from the Sh28.70 they earned last year.
The angry farmers barricaded roads leading to the factory and the factory entrance with logs and bonfires.
The drama that lasted a whole day paralysed tea harvesting activities in the area.
The farmers also demanded the overhaul of the factory management, accusing them of being insensitive to their woes.
