Relations with William Ruto
Lonyangapuo has openly disagreed with William Ruto on several occasions. In 2016, he accused the Deputy President of attempting to intimidate him during his visit. He also claimed that Mr Ruto insulted him.
The two would later reconcile, and vowed to work together. During DP Ruto’s recent tour in West Pokot, he offered Dennis Kapchoka, alias Mulmulwas, the kijana fupi amenona round who was a thorn in Lonyangapuo’s flesh.
In his reconciliatory remarks, DP Ruto urged Dennis Kapchoka, a former MCA aspirant, to desist from opposing County government projects.
In July 2021, Governor John Lonyangapuo announced his defection from KANU, insisting that he will not defend his seat on a KANU ticket. He is the only county chief elected on a KANU ticket.
