In the effort to boost the fight against the spread of Coronavirus, Isiolo Governor Dr. Mohammed Kuti has announced more stringent measures.
Speaking to the press after attending the Isiolo County COVID -19 Emergency Response meeting, Kuti announced that Isiolo’s border at Modogashe would be closed immediately.
“We have noticed since Nairobi became the epicenter of COVID-19 that they have been mass migrations from the city to Isiolo and through Isiolo to other North Eastern Counties. This is posing imminent danger to our people and we must be vigilant.” Said Dr. Mohamed Kuti.
“To prevent this migration and protect our people from Coronavirus, we have from this afternoon ordered that the Mododashe border is closed,” Mohamed Kuti said.
Governor Kuti also urged residents to embrace the wearing of face masks and reported that law enforcers will work closely with public health officers to ensure all bodaboda operators, salons and barbershops have face masks on as they do their daily businesses.
Additionally, Dr. Kuti announced that he is in talks with the U.S Department of Defense on improvement measures that can be adopted to enhance the bio-safety laboratory at Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital to make it a COVID-19 testing center.
Though Isiolo County has no Intensive Care Unit (I.C.U), the Governor also announced that he shall soon be opening an I.C.U that will have a capacity of 13 beds and will be installed several Dual Flow oxygen concentrators.
Public health workers screening passengers will also benefit from tents and more thermoguns.
