Your National Identification Card is valid until 12th December 2021 midnight, ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has said.
According to CS Mucheru, the government will phase out the current National Identification cards by December next year.
Kenyans will instead use Huduma Namba cards to identify themselves.
CS Mucheru says all arrangements are in place to begin the issuance of the much-anticipated Huduma cards in two weeks’ time.
Mucheru was speaking at the Machakos Golf Club on Wednesday when he presided over the launch of the Huduma Namba cards.
According to Mr. Mucheru, Kenyans have little to worry about, since they will be notified via SMS on where to collect their Huduma Namba cards.
In anticipation of the roll-out, President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta received samples of the Huduma cards at the Gusii Stadium in Kisii County during this year’s Mashujaa Day Celebrations.
Close to 38 million Kenyans registered for the cards.
Kenyans without Huduma Namba Cards will not be able to vote, pay taxes, acquire healthcare services, sell or buy land as well as operate any bank account.
Additionally, any individual who attempts to transact the listed State services without the Huduma Namba will be liable to a one-year jail term or Sh1 million fine.
