Public health facilities in Kisumu County remain without doctors after efforts to have fruitful talks to end the crisis hit a dead end on Christmas eve.

The talks that lasted for 8 hours involving Kenya Medical Practitioners, KMPDU, and Kisumu Health CEC Prof. Miguda Attyang yielded ended in a stalemate.

According to Dr. Kevin Osuri, who is the KMPDU Nyanza Chairman, no agreement was reached.

The outspoken doctor said that the strike will continue until their demands are fully met, especially the issue of promotions.

“The County government of Kisumu has not promoted senior consultants. To date, many doctors have also not been promoted to the correct job groups as per the return to work formula. We are on strike until all these matters are addressed.” said Dr. Osuri.

“Members of the public are advised to seek health services in private facilities or neighboring counties,” said the Nyanza KMPDU boss.

According to Dr. Osuri, the County government had promised to work on all promotions for doctors before February this year, a promise they failed to honor.
