Garissa Deputy Governor H. E. Abdi Dagane today warned local traders against hiking food prices following the restrictions of movement in the fight against the COVID-19.
Speaking at the Garissa main prison camp where he delivered handwashing detergents and wash buckets donated by the Kenya Progressive Nurses Association, Garissa branch, the DG urged traders not take advantage of the situation to create food shortage exacerbated by hoarding.
“We are facing a tough moment that calls for goodwill, support and donations. Let us refrain from actions that will worsen the situation,” said the DG.
He appealed to other well-wishers to help in donating detergent and wash items to institutions that were rated to be vulnerable.
The DG said Garissa correction service center remains among the facilities that require support against Coronavirus due to high number of male and female inmates.
He said Garissa County government in conjunction with other partners, was involved in the sensitization program as control measures against the pandemic.
He thanked members of the public for cooperating with the County response team for their daily continued efforts to report suspected cases.
The CEC for Health and Sanitation Hon. Ahmednadir Omar said the county response team had upscaled their surveillance mission against Coronavirus war.
He said to date there was no confirmed case as all suspected cases revealed had turned negative.
The CECM appealed to members of the public to ignore scare mongers thriving on social media who are frequently reporting about alleged confirmed cases of coronavirus victims in Garissa.
The Kenya prisons Northeastern Regional Commander Gacheru Kamore thanked the County Government and the Kenya progressive Nurses Association for the donations.
Kenya Red Cross branch Coordinator Mohamed Dubow, Garissa town sub-county MOH Dr Mohamed Ahmed, officer commanding Garissa main prison camp Abdiweli Hassan, women inmates in charge Mwana Hamisi Kamora and officials of the Kenya progressive Nurses Association were present in the function.
