Five Chinese nationals were arrested by Police on Tuesday after a tip-off from members of the public about an illegal gambling machine ring in Free Area, Nakuru.
A total of 169 gambling machines were confiscated by Police during the raid that took place on Tuesday evening.
The five Chinese men had rented a house at Free area in the outskirts of Nakuru town, where they assembled the gambling machines.
Confirming the incident, Nakuru County Police Commander Stephen Matu thanked members of the public for the useful information about the illegal trade.
“We are yet to understand how these machines landed in Nakuru after clearance in Mombasa because we know that gambling is banned in Kenya,” said Mr Matu.
I t was also established that the suspects, aged between 30 and 50 years, arrived in Kenya early this month.
The authenticity and validity of their travel documents is however yet to be established.
Just one year ago, 11 men and 10 women, all Chinese nationals were arrested in Nairobi for operating a casino without valid work permits.
